The United States has revealed that it is intending to send 400 extra troops to Iraq this year. The soldiers are part of the 2nd Brigade Combat Team and are among the 560 additional troops that US President Barack Obama approved for the Iraq mission last month.
“About 400 soldiers from the 101st Airborne Division’s 2nd Brigade Combat Team will be deployed to Iraq this summer as part of the recent announcement made to increase troops, said an army release on Friday.
“The soldiers from Fort Campbell, Kentucky, will join about 1,300 others from 2nd Brigade who are deployed to Iraq to support Operation Inherent Resolve,” the release further said.
“The 400 additional soldiers will come from various units across the brigade and have a mix of military occupational specialties and job skills, and they are among the 560 additional troops that President Barack Obama approved for the Iraq mission last month,” the release added.
It may be mentioned here that US Secretary of Defense Ash Carter announced in June earlier this year that the US will send 560 more troops to Iraq for helping the forces in Iraq in their quest to recapture Mosul.
