A member of the Kurdistan Region parliament has revealed that Kurdish authorities are in contact with US officials in regards to an operation to liberate Sinjar.
Talking to BasNews, MP Sheikh Shamo acknowledged the frustration the people of Kurdistan Region feel about regular postponements to the operation to free the Yazidi-majority town west of Mosul.
He pointed out that US officials have stressed that liberating Sinjar depends on defeating Islamic State (IS) in their stronghold of Mosul first.
The MP said that new US Consul General in Erbil Matthias Mitman told him in a meeting that the US is working in close cooperation with the Peshmerga and the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) to launch a massive operation to liberate Sinjar and other areas of northern Iraq
Sinjar fell to IS on 3rd August last year.
