The Iraqi Kurdish peshmerga forces have recaptured a Christian-majority town in northern Iraq from Daesh, which had briefly taken over the town, a Kurdish officer said on Tuesday.
Peshmerga forces, backed by Christian fighters and coalition airstrikes, have regained control of the northern town of Tel Skuf, 30 kilometers north of Mosul, Kurdish officer Shirzad Zakholi told Anadolu Agency.
According to Zakholi, at least 40 Daesh militants were killed in the clashes.
Zakholi said that US-led coalition warplanes have carried out several raids on Daesh in the town.
Iraq has been racked by insecurity since 2014, when Daesh overran Mosul and declared a self-styled “caliphate” in parts of Iraq and Syria.
