The Islamic State (IS) has executed scores of its own fighters in Mosul, accusing them of desertion when faced with Kurdish Peshmerga forces.
Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) official from Mosul Saed Mamuzini told BasNews that IS commanders executed 73 jihadi fighters in their northern Iraqi stronghold of Mosul on Saturday November 14th.
He added that the insurgents were sentenced to death by direct order from IS leader Abubakir al-Baghdadi.
BasNews understands that the militants were executed because they fled Sinjar on Thursday when Peshmerga forces attacked the town.
Kurdish Peshmerga and international coalition jets moved on Sinjar on November 12th, and successfully liberated the Yazidi town, west of Mosul.
