The jihadist group has started bulletproofing vehicles and rigging bridges with explosives
A commander of Peshmerga forces stated that the Islamic State (IS) has taken vehicles to the industrial zone in Mosul to secure them with bulletproof materials in order to use them against the Iraqi security forces during the Mosul assault.
Jamal Barwari, a Peshmerga Commander in Zummar frontline, reported that IS has started preparing for the Mosul offensive and has brought vehicles from Syria to Mosul to technically develop them with bulletproof plates for the anticipated assault.
IS militants have accumulated the vehicles in the Mosul industrial zone to bulletproof them and lade them with explosives to use them against the Iraqi troops during the Mosul offensive, the source said.
Meanwhile, Barwari revealed, the IS militants have reportedly rigged four of Mosul bridges with explosives to detonate them if the city is attacked, an attempt aiming to preclude the Iraqi army from entering the city from the western part of the city.
Tigris river separates Mosul into the eastern and western parts, and IS hopes to secure its position in the western part of the city upon the Mosul operation by preventing the Iraqi army from crossing the river into the western part.
