Internal disputes have led to armed conflict between Islamic State (IS) militants in Mosul, where a number of jihadists have reportedly been killed.
Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) official from Mosul Saed Mamuzini told BasNews that deadly clashes erupted between the Naqshbandi armed group, affiliated with IS, and other jihadists in the Yarmouk neighbourhood of western Mosul.
Mamuzini revealed that Naqshbandi militants are not satisfied with their authority in IS territories and are seeking greater role in the area.
Mamuzini confirmed that at least seven insurgents were killed during the clashes.
The Naqshbandi militant group is led by high-ranking Ba’athists from Saddam Hussein’s regime including Izzat al-Douri. They are affiliated with IS in northern and western areas of Iraq.
