Germany is to increase military aid for Kurdish Peshmerga forces fighting Islamic State (IS).
The German defence ministry announced it will send a further 50 troops to the Kurdistan Region. A total of 150 German soldiers will train the Peshmerga.
The German parliament will vote on the proposal from the defense ministry in January.
A ministry spokesperson said that the training delivered by the German army is a proven way to support the Kurdish troops against IS.
Germany, not an active partner in the US-led coalition, is directly arming the Peshmerga forces with military equipment alongside the training.
Approximately 100 German soldiers have been stationed in the Kurdistan Region to train the Peshmerga.
