An officer in the 9th division of the Iraqi army said that their forces have besieged dozens of Islamic State (IS) militants, including leaders, in al-Shifa hospital in west Mosul, like reported by basnews.com .
The officer told Alghad Press that fierce clashes are ongoing between the Iraqi army and IS militants trapped inside the hospital.
Dozens of militants are surrounded in the hospital including leading figures, he said.
He pointed out that “the 9th division is trying to recapture the hospital and complete the liberation of the entire neighborhood of Shifa,” explaining that they will shortly seize full control over the building.
The Iraqi security forces launched the battle to retake west Mosul in February, after they fully liberated the eastern side of the city in January.
