A few thousands of militants of the Islamic State (IS) are remaining in Iraq and Syria, said the Coalition spokesperson, like reported by basnews.com.
US Colonel Ryan Dillon announced during an Anti-IS Global Coalition’s briefing at the US Embassy in London that a few thousands of IS insurgents are remaining in Iraq and Syria.
He also revealed the existence of a database of some 26,000 militant combatants compiled from more than 70 countries.
Speaking at the briefing, Colonel Dillion said “There is a database of 26,000 terrorist fighters which are there to identify and action if they are identified trying to move outside of Iraq and Syria or throughout the world.”
“They are no longer a military threat. They no longer have an army that we saw present itself in 2014,” Dillon said.
The coalition is maintaining a presence in Iraq and Syria and “adapting its strategy to support its partners and achieve sustainable victory,” he said.
