British Islamic State recruiter Sally Jones and her 12-year-old son Jojo are believed to have been killed in a US airstrike in Syria, like reported by thejournal.ie.
The CIA told UK intelligence services that Jones was killed by a predator drone strike near the Syria-Iraq border in June, The Sun reports.
“The Americans zapped her trying to get away from Raqqa. Quite frankly, it’s good riddance,” a source in the British intelligence services told the paper.
The Guardian reports that there is confidence Jones is dead but note that it is impossible to verify the deaths of ISIS fighters in drone strikes because of the inability to collect evidence on the ground.
Other members of the terrorist group have been reported dead only to reappear at a later date.
Former punk musician Jones was born in Greenwich, south-east London and lived in Kent.
After converting to Islam she travelled to Syria in 2013 to join her husband Junaid Hussain.
She was dubbed ‘The White Widow’ by the UK press after Hussain was killed in a US drone strike in 2015.
Jones operated numerous social media accounts and used them to recruit women to Isis.
She used the accounts to spread Isis propaganda, often sharing pictures of herself posing with weapons and advising people on how to travel to Syria.
Jones also encouraged people to carry out attacks in Britain, offering guidance on how to construct home-made bombs.
She made extremist comments such as: “You Christians all need beheading with a nice blunt knife and stuck on the railings at Raqqa … Come here I’ll do it for you.”
