An explosion hit a convoy of Afghan forces in southern Helmand province. The blast was triggered by a suicide car bomb, a source told 1TV.
It targeted convoy of Afghan soldiers just outside the provincial police headquarter in Lashkargah city. The soldiers were in the area to collect their salaries from a bank.
At least five people were killed in the attack. The deaths included two soldiers and three civilians, according to Omar Zwak, a spokesman for the provincial governor.
Thirty-eight more were wounded in the bombing, the official said. Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack.
There have been several attacks on Afghan forces as they gather at banks for their salaries. Two months ago, 34 people were killed while 58 were wounded after a blast targeted forces gathered in the same area for their salaries.
The attack comes a day after U.S. President Donald Trump announced his administration’s plan for Afghanistan, which calls for continued presence of troops in the country.
