An anti-terrorist operation is underway in Kazakhstan’s city of Aktoba (former Aktyubinsk). Several people have been killed and wounded, Spokesman for the Kazakh Interior Ministry Almas Sadubayev said on Sunday.
According to the spokesman, unidentified persons attacked two arms shops and a National Guard unit. “A salesman of one of the shops was killed, one person was wounded,” he said. “An officer and a contract soldier were killed and nine servicemen of the National Guard unit were wounded while repelling the attack.”
One of the attackers was detained, three others were killed and another one was wounded. Several attackers fled, the spokesman said, adding that measures are being taken to spot and detain them.
“The attackers are supposedly members of non-traditional radical religious groups,” Sadubayev said.
“An anti-terrorist operation regime has been imposed in Aktoba,” he said. “Amusement facilities gave been closed, transport operation has been suspended. People are strongly recommended not leave their homes.”.
