Islamic State militants have revealed that during Tuesday’s clashes with Iraqi security forces, a nephew of former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein was killed.
The insurgents revealed online that Ibrahim Sabawi Hassan, was killed during fighting in the town of Baiji in Salahaddin Province, northern Iraq, on Tuesday.
Ibrahim was the son of Sabawi al-Tikriti, a brother of Saddam Hussein.
In June last year Islamic State captured areas across Salahaddin including Baiji and the provincial capital Tikrit, the hometown of Saddam.
The province was largely cleared of Islamic State militants in March this year, by Iraqi security forces with support from Shi’ite militias and international coalition airstrikes.
