An Islamic State terrorist from Russia who was captured by Syrian Kurdish paramilitary groups is to be handed over to Russian military authorities per a long-standing agreement between the concerned parties, like reported by almasdarnews.com.
Kurdish sources report that an ISIS fighter of Russian nationality who was recently captured by Syrian Kurdish forces is to be transferred to the control of the Russian military.
Sources go on to state that the handover will take place as part of an ‘official ceremony’ involving commanders from the Kurdish People’s Protection Units armed group and Russian military officials.
The Russian ISIS militant, who remains unnamed in the reports, may very well be Vladimir Oleinikov who was captured by the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (of which Kurdish units form a core component) in the province of Deir Ezzor.
Though unstated, the handover point is likely to be in or near the city of Manbij (currently under the control of US-backed forces) in Syria’s Aleppo province were most exchanges between Kurdish forces and Russian and Syrian government authorities take place.
