Russian Ambassador to Tirana, Aleksandar Karpusin, has officially addressed the state of Albania, informing them that he feels threatened in Tirana, like reported by gazetaexpress.com
Diplomatic sources told Tirana based TV Vision Plus that Karpusin has informed authorities in Albania two weeks ago that he feels threatened by a group of Islamic extremists from Kosovo and Macedonia. The same sources say that this group, according to the Russian diplomat, is placed in an apartment near Russian Embassy in Tirana and is observing all the movements of the Ambassador and diplomatic staff of the Embassy. He said that ISIS extremists are capable of acting anywhere and under every circumstance. Reportedly Karpusin has also informed his staff to avoid activities in public as much as they can.
Diplomatic sources say that the Russian Embassy offered no concrete evidence to substantiate its claims on the group that allegedly is threatening the Russian Ambassador. But they asked increase of personnel, namely bring a group of intelligence experts from Moscow, who are capable of dealing with such threats. The request of Russian Embassy to bring intelligence experts from Moscow came amidst the preparations of Albania to hold general elections due to be held on 18 June.
