Kurdish Peshmerga forces on the Gwer frontline, south west of the Iraqi Kurdistan Region capital Erbil, have shot down an Islamic State drone which was in the area spying on Kurdish forces.
On Tuesday morning, May 5th, Peshmerga forces based in Mala Qara village, close to Gwer about 60 km from Erbil, shot down an IS drone, which was carrying a spy cam. It was being used to monitor the movements of Peshmerga forces in the area.
Qader Hassan, spokesperson of the Makhmour – Gwer frontline for Peshmerga forces told BasNews that Peshmerga forces destroyed the drone early on Tuesday morning.
“We are still examining the drone to assess what pictures it has taken,” said Hassan.
According to Peshmerga, IS militants use drones to take pictures of Peshmerga positions and frontlines before each attack.
BasNews has exclusively obtained pictures of the destroyed drone.
