The Pakistani Army Chief General Raheel Sharif has asked the United States to target the hideouts of Pakistani Taliban, Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) hideouts and the group’s leader Mullah Fazlullah in Afghanistan.
According to reports, Gen. Sharif raised the demand during a meeting with the senior US officials at the General Headquarters of the Pakistani army.
The senior US officials included the Commander Resolute Support Mission in Afghanistan General John Nicholson and US Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan Richard Olson.
Gen. Sharif also claimed that “Pakistan will not allow Indian and Afghan intelligence agencies to foment terrorism in the country.”
Citing the official sources, the Pakistani media, reported that regional security situation with particular reference to border management and peace and stability in Afghanistan in the post-May 21 US drone strike environment came under discussion during the meeting.
Gen. Sharif reaffirmed Pakistan’s concerns regarding the airstrike targeting the Afghan Taliban Chief Mullah Akhtar Mansoor, terming it a violation of Pakistan’s sovereignty.
He also added that the drone strike negatively affected the mutual trust and respect between the two countries and the gains made during Pakistan’s own war on terror.
