The Nigerian army confirmed on Sunday that 105 militants of the terror group Boko Haram were killed during a recent military operation in the northeastern state of Yobe, reported Xinhua news agency.
The success was a result of an intelligence report which revealed a plan by Boko Haram terrorists to attack Buni Yadi village, according to Lawrence Araba, the army commander in charge of Sector 2 of Operation Lafiya Dole.
The commander said the troops swiftly intercepted and engaged the criminals in battles that led to the killing of 105 Boko Haram terrorists as well as the seizure of some equipment from the terrorists.
Boko Haram has posed enormous security and humanitarian challenges in the Lake Chad basin, including Chad, Cameroon, Benin, and Niger, besides Nigeria, according to the United Nations.
