French authorities relocated radical inmates in several prisons after suspecting that they were creating a network in the penitentiary where they were together, according to statements by prison sources published on Sunday.
The incident occurred in the prison of Fleury-Mérogis, in the region of Ile-de-France (Parisian Region) and it involved at least 10 individuals who were arrested for radicalization, according to a spokesman for the penitentiary administration, quoted by Journal de Dimanche.
The spokesman added that the inmates were separated and relocated in other prisons in the Parisian Region.
In a tense context marked by terrorist threats in the country, penitentiary centers are increasing the surveillance of inmates who have been identified as radical Muslims.
As a result, measures like holding those people in individual cells and reducing their contact with other inmates have been taken.
Over the past few months, France has been hit by several terrorist attacks, so the state of emergency remains activated nationwide.
