Daesh sympathizers could be plotting grenade attacks on government offices and public areas across Malaysia, a counterterror police unit chief said Tuesday
A grenade blast at the Movida nightclub outside the Southeast Asian nation’s capital of Kuala Lumpur injured eight people in late June. Authorities said that Malaysians fighting alongside Daeshin Syria were behind the bombing.
“With the Movida bombing it’s clear they have the connection and ability to get weapons from neighbouring countries and that is our main concern now,” Ayob Khan told Channel NewsAsia.
Police believe Islamists could be in possession of more obsolete grenades that, Khan said, were made in 1967 and remained deadly. Bomb attacks will most likely target government offices, places of entertainment, as well as police and army facilities, he predicted.
