Libya’s Colonel Khalifa Haftar arrived in Cairo to meet political and military officials, informed Egyptian sources told Al-Araby Al-Jadeed.
The visit aimed to coordinate efforts with the Operation Room of Misrata which was formed by the Libyan national unity government headed by Fayez Al-Sarraj.
The sources also said that Cairo was to update Haftar about the latest developments regarding the international discussions on Libya as well as the latest deals and plans to liberate Sirte from Daesh.
In addition, the sources said that there is an international agreement to delay political discussions between Al-Sarraj and the head of the Tobruk Parliament Aqeela Saleh on condition that this does not affect military coordination regarding the liberation of Sirte.
“World powers agreed to carry out a large-scale attack on Daesh in more than one location at the same time in order to paralyse its branches and the movement of its members,” the sources said noting that Cairo would tell Haftar that the international partners do not want him to carry out any individual operation without coordination with Al-Sarraj’s government.
The sources reiterated that Washington does not have a problem with Haftar’s presence in the new Libyan government, but he must not be the main player.
