UNIFIL Spanish Contingent donated 16 laptops and four boxes of clothes to Social Development Centres (SDCs) of the south-eastern Lebanese villages of El Adeisse, El Khiam, Majdal Silim and Meiss Ej Jebel, yesterday.
The Spanish donation follows requests from the local communities, and forms a part of the Mission’s broader efforts to support the Lebanese state institutions in the face of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
The laptops will be used to run computer classes for the local children.
UNIFIL Sector East Commander Brigadier General Marcos Llago Navarro handed over the donated items at a ceremony in El Adeisse, which was also attended by representatives of the Lebanese Ministry of Social Affairs and the Lebanese Armed Forces as well as the respective SDC directors.
All the precautionary measures to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 Coronavirus were followed during the event.
UNIFIL assistance seeks to improve capabilities and enhance efforts of the host communities, which is a key in furthering the excellent relationship with these communities. Such assistance, together with operational activities, has helped keep calm in the Mission’s area of operation in south Lebanon for almost 14 years.
