International cooperation and exchange of information between security institutions of different countries are key elements in fighting terrorism and violent extremism. However, Kosovo is facing major problems in this aspect, say state officials and security experts in Kosovo.
The latest US State Department on terrorism reported that “non-recognition of Kosovo by Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina is hindering Kosovo’s participation in regional initiatives against terrorism.”
Kosovo Minister of Interior, Skender Hyesni said that non-recognition of Kosovo by SSerbia and Bosnia and the lack of diplomatic relations with these two countries are is the main obstacle for the exchange of information and engaging in a substantial fight against terrorism and violent extremism.
“There is almost a complete deficit of exchange of information with Serbia and Bosnia. Meanwhile, we enjoy good cooperation with other regional states. We have close cooperation with Albania, while there is still work to be done with other countries”, said Hyseni.
