Kenya’s army said it killed 31 al-Shabaab fighters in a raid on two of the Islamist militants’ bases in southern Somalia, like reported by bloomberg.com.
The air and ground assault was carried out on Sunday, the Kenya Defence Forces said in a statement emailed Monday. Weapons including 11 AK-47 assault rifles and four improvised explosive devices were seized after the raids, it said.
Kenyan forces began an incursion into southern Somalia in 2011 to fight al-Shabaab, which has waged an insurgency in the Horn of Africa country since 2006. The militants continue to carry out cross-border raids in areas including northeastern Kenya.
