The Kenyan soldiers killed seven al-Shabaab militants in a military operation in southern Somalia, the army announced Wednesday.
“Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) soldiers operating under AMISOM (The African Union Mission in Somalia) engaged Al-Shabaab militants at a location along Tabda-Delahola supply route,” KDF spokesman Paul Njuguna said in a statement.
Some of the al-Shabaab militants escaped with injuries, the army said, adding, two Kenyan soldiers also sustained injuries.
The Kenyan soldiers seized nine AK-47 rifles, 10 firearm magazines, two rocket-propelled grenade launchers, and three grenades in the operation, according to the statement.
Kenya has witnessed a spate of attacks from Somali-based, al Qaeda-affiliated al-Shabaab militant group which killed more than 140 students from Garissa University in northern Kenya in April 2015, becoming their bloodiest attack on Kenyan soil.
