The radical Islamist group al-Shabaab on Saturday killed an intelligence officer’s bodyguard in a drive-by shooting in the Somali capital Mogadishu, police said to eblnews.com .
“The main goal of the attack was to kill senior intelligence commander Hassan Dhere, who was wounded in the attack,” police officer Mohamed Dahir said.
Dhere’s driver was also wounded.
The attack was the second since new President Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed took office on Thursday, the same day a mortar attack killed two children.
Al-Shabaab claimed responsibility for the attack on pro-insurgent radio Andalus.
The group’s decade-long campaign against the Somali government has claimed thousands of lives on both sides.
