An Islamic Jihad operative was killed in an explosion in the Gaza Strip on Monday, in an apparent work accident. Palestinian media reported that two other operatives were wounded in the blast.
An Islamic Jihad statement said Monday’s explosion took place at a training site in the northern Gaza Strip. It identified the dead man as Mazen Lulu, 30, saying he was killed in a “jihadi mission.” The term is typically used to describe operational mishaps.
Since the beginning of this year, 14 members of Hamas have been killed in tunnel collapses that have also been referred to as work accidents. Hamas is trying to rebuild its grid of terror tunnels, which was severely damaged in its 2014 war with Israel.
