The Kurdistan Regional Government’s (KRG) Ministry of Peshmerga (MOP) has revealed that Germany has sent extra military aid to the Kurdistan Region.
The news was confirmed on the official website of the German army. 138 tons of military equipment has been shipped to the Kurdistan Region as part of ongoing international military support for the KRG as it fights Islamic State (IS) on multiple fronts.
Jabar Yawar, the MOP’s spokesperson told BasNews, “Germany has sent another shipment of military hardware to the Peshmerga. We won’t reveal the amount or type of weaponry to the press.”
A German army statement revealed some of the arms. “The military support includes Milan anti-tank missiles, G3 rifle ammunition and other anti-tank missiles.”
Germany, as part of the international coalition, has been providing the KRG with military, humanitarian and political support in the fight against Islamic State (IS) militants.
