France will send military support to the Kurdish Peshmerga forces in August, according to a Kurdish official in Paris.
Ali Dolamari, the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) deputy representative in Paris told BasNews on Saturday that French Defence Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian will visit Erbil in August. His trip will coincide with the delivery of weapons and ammunition for the Peshmerga.
“During President Barzani’s visit to Paris and the KRG Peshmerga Ministry visit to the country, both delegations met with the French President and the French Defence Minister, who they asked for additional military support from the French government,” said Dolamari.
“The French Defence Minister was scheduled to visit the Kurdistan Region in April this year, but because of technical problems the visit was rescheduled to August,” he added.
The Kurdish official noted that the delivery of weapons in August will include m23 missiles, MILAN anti-tank systems and DSKA heavy machine guns.
He revealed that Le Drian will visit the Peshmerga on the frontlines during his visit to Kurdistan.
