The French Senate has approved a new anti-terror bill presented by the government.
The bill was approved by 229 votes against 106 and will go to the National Assembly in October.
The Senate voted in favor of changes drafted by the parliamentary commission, setting the validity of measures risking to limit individual freedoms to December 31.
The draft legislation is meant to come into effect after November 1, to replace current state of emergency legislation imposed in the wake of the November 2015 terror attacks in Paris in which 130 people died.
The bill has been criticized by several organizations including Amnesty International, the Human Rights League, Islamist associations and Magistrates’ union who have said the draft legislation vies to make permanent some emergency measures that are currently in place.
