The Egyptian army announced thwarting a new “infiltration attempt” across the border with Libya, like reported by libyanexpress.com.
“The air force succeeded in foiling an infiltration attempt by 10 4×4 vehicles loaded with arms and ammunition on the western border with Libya,” the army announced in a televised statement.
It added that the vehicles were completely destroyed, without providing a death toll or identifying the alleged infiltrators.
The border area between Egypt and Libya continues to witness sporadic clashes between Egyptian security forces and smugglers or gunmen, according to previous army statements.
Libya’s eastern forces led by Khalifa Haftar and loyal to the Tobruk Parliament have more than once enlisted the help of Egypt to partake in operations in Benghazi and Derna as well as in other areas in eastern Libya.
This week, the speaker of the parliament in eastern Libya, Aqilah Saleh, told Youm7 newspaper in Cairo that they will start a military operation in Derna and Egypt will help.
In recent months, the army has reportedly foiled numerous attempts by “infiltrators” to enter Egyptian territory from neighboring Libya.
