The Belgium cabinet has approved the deployment of two Belgium Air Force NH90 helicopters to Mali to support the United Nations mission in that country, like reported by janes.com.
The Belgium government announced on 23 November that the helicopters would be deployed along with approximately 50 personnel to a “secured UN compound” in Gao from February 2018, and would likely be operational the following month. The deployment will last at least four months and could be extended for up to two months.
“The tasks of this detachment will include air transport, medical evacuations, and reconnaissance flights,” it said.
The German military already operates four NH90s from the UN base in Gao.
