‘We need to know who has entered our country,’ said Bavarian Prime Minister Horst Seehofer
Refugees registered in Germany should have their identities verified in response to a series of attacks and shootings in Germany, Bavarian Prime Minister Horst Seehofer said.
Seehofer, the leader of the Christian Social Union (CSU), the sister party of German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s Christian Democratic Union, told Süddeutsche Zeitung Tuesday: “We need to know who has entered our country.”
The prime minister said the security situation in Bavaria, where three attacks took place over the course of a week, is “serious and threatening.”
Seehofer said police should be given more personnel and resources, the internet should be better monitored and the criminal law tightened.
His remarks come ahead of a cabinet meeting later on Tuesday, when the CSU is expected to call for the regional government to act “legally and politically.”
Several prominent CSU politicians have already come out in favor of increasing police or military powers in response to the threat of terror attacks.
