Algeria is willing to help and share with the European Union (EU) its experience in fighting terrorism and violent extremism, says Foreign Minister Abdelkader Messahel, like reported by bernama.com.
“Algeria’s experience in de-radicalization is highly interesting for the Europeans Union (EU), as they need to know how we have proceeded (in the fight against terrorism), and we are ready to support them and share our experience with them,” Messahel told journalists on the sidelines of the opening of the Algeria-EU High-Level Dialogue on Regional Security here Thursday.
The strategic dialogue, which will focus on the fight against terrorism and violent extremism, is being co-chaired by Messahel and the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Federica Mogherini. It marks the launch an informal dialogue on ways to combine efforts to fight terrorism and support Algeria’s efforts in regional stabilization, said a diplomatic source.
“Algeria has a globally recognized experience in the fight against terrorism and can provide the EU with a proven expertise in this field,” added the source, who stressed that the North African country was marking considerable progress to secure its borders and play a leading role in the stabilization of the region.
On Wednesday, the President of the European Parliament, Antonio Tajani, welcomed Algeria’s efforts to promote regional stability and expressed satisfaction at the important role played by the country in the stabilization of Libya and in the fight against terrorism.
“We are very satisfied with the work that Algeria has carried out for the stabilisation of the southern shore of the Mediterranean,” he said following his meeting with Messahel who is on two-day visit to Brussels.
