Several militants have been killed in the latest clash between two factions of the Taliban group in western Herat province of Afghanistan, the local officials said according to khaama.com.
Provincial governor’s spokesman Jilani Farhad confirmed the incident and said the latest clash took place between the militants led by Mullah Hebatullah and Taliban’s dissident group led by Mullah Rasool.
Farhad further added that the incident has taken place in the vicinity of Guzra district of Herat and as a result at least sixteen militants have been killed.
According to Farhad, at least ten militants affiliated with Mullah Hebatullah group and six militants loyal to Mullah Rasool were killed during the clash.
The anti-government armed militant groups including Taliban militants have not commented regarding the incident so far.
Herat has been among the relatively calm provinces in West of Afghanistan but the security situation in some of its remote districts has started to deteriorate comparatively during the recent years.
The anti-government armed militants often attempt to carry out attacks against the government and security forces in this province.
