Over 200 Taliban insurgents have been killed or wounded in the ongoing military operations in western Herat province of Afghanistan, local officials said Thursday.
The operations are being conducted in Shindand district with the officials saying over 70 per cent of the district has been cleared of militants so far.
Provincial governor Mohammad Asif Rahimi said the operations will cotinue until the district of Shindand has been fully cleared of militants.
He said at least 100 Taliban insurgents have been killed so far and around 110 others have been wounded.
Shinand is among the relatively volatile provinces in western Herat province which is among the peaceful provinces in west of the country.
The operations by Afghan forces in Shindand district were launched shortly after a bloody infighting among the Taliban insurgents left nearly 200 militants dead.
The militants loyal to the so-called Taliban supreme leader Mullah Akhtar Mansoor and his rival Mullah Mohammad Rasool erupted earlier this monthi which continued for almost one week.
The two sides were also accused of commiting crimes against the local residents including torching the houses of the local residents as well as exectuting them during the clashes.
