The Italian Ambassador to Iraq says that Italy is ready to provide equal military support to the Iraqi army and Kurdish Peshmerga.
On Sunday, Ambassador Massimo Marotti said that Italy will donate three surveillance drones to the Iraqi army.
Italy will give weapons to the Peshmerga, alongside specialist training from Italian officers.
Marotti praised his country’s role in the international coalition against IS militants, and its support to the Peshmerga and Iraqi army.
“It is very important to train the Peshmerga forces in this situation and Italy has shown its willingness to do so,” he said.
Italy is the top two contributors of on-the-ground trainers and advisors who are enabling the Kurdish Peshmerga forces and Iraqis in the fight against extremists.
