The Iraqi Defense Ministry has received an undisclosed number of Russian ‘Night Hunter’ helicopters, according to a statement released on Monday.
More of the aircraft will be delivered by the end of this week.
The Iraqi government first put Night Hunters into service against Islamic State (IS) militants in 2014. They are used to support ground forces attacking the extremists.
Baghdad signed contracts with Russia for 40 Mi-28 and Mi-35 helicopters costing a total of $4.2 billion.
There have been international military support for Iraqi army as well as Kurdish Peshmerga forces in recent month to strengthen Iraqi forces in its fight against the Islamic State militants.
