The Czech foreign, defence and interior ministries have jointly given the go-ahead to support the Iraqi government in its ongoing fight against Islamic State (IS) militants.
“It is extremely important [that] the Czech Republic help in the fight against international terrorism,” Czech former chief of staff Jiri Sedivy said.
A total of 100 vehicles have been inspected and accepted by Iraqi experts, checking everything down to the spare parts that come with the reconditioned BVP-1 armoured personnel carriers (APCs) and T-72 tanks.
Czech politician Frantisek Bublan said that the delivery was the Czech Republic’s best contribution to Iraq’s fight against IS.
Excalibur Army, the company supplying the hardware, have recently sent tanks, APCs and missile launchers to the Nigerian government as they deal with the Muslim insurgency of Boko Haram.
