The Tornado GR4 jet was able to score a direct hit against the militants with a Brimstone missile, after they launched a mortar at Peshmerga positions.
In a second operation on the morning of the 7th February, a pair of Tornado jets were patrolling the skies above Al Qa’im near the Syrian border when they identified two heavily armed IS trucks, which they destroyed, again using the Brimstone missiles. They also hit an IS armoured vehicle.
A third operation used a Reaper armed reconnaissance drone, which targeted an IS checkpoint, launching a Hellfire missiles after it was established that there was no risk of civilian casualties.
Earlier in the month, British jets conducted missions to the north of Baghdad. Alongside the airstrikes, the UK is providing military advice to Iraqi and Kurdish soldiers, IED detectors and humanitarian relief.
